Hiking

The area around the Maloja Pass offers unspoilt nature at its best, at the point linking the Engadin and the Bergell valley.
The area is a veritable paradise for families and holidaymakers eager to enjoy active pursuits in the great outdoors.

Maloja is a first-rate resort for hiking, climbing and tours.
There are also numerous trails that wind their way into the Bergell valley.
A particularly popular itinerary is the loop around Lake Sils, which can be undertaken on foot, with in-line skates or by bike.
The trail leads through a protected nature reserve, affording glimpses along the way of ancient glaciers dating back to the last ice age; indeed, the area has the highest concentration of glacial potholes found anywhere in Europe.

Lake Sils, lying in close proximity to the Maloja Pass watershed, is one of three lakes in the Engadin.
It is very popular with windsurfers thanks to the south-westerly wind from the Maloja Pass.
There are a number of trails around the Lake which are ideal for hikers and cyclists.
One of the classic hikes in Upper Engadin is the lake tour, which sets off from Maloja and ends in St.

Moritz, the world-famous mountain holiday resort, skirting Lakes Sils, Silvaplana and Champf along the way.
The route can also be enjoyed on bicycle, motorbike or in-line skates.
Its unique position makes it the highest-altitude lake in Europe.
